Guided Moose Tour   Sept 16th- 20th

....for photographers and moose watchers.   We've timed this 3 day guided moose tour to coincide with a very exciting, yearly North Woods phenomena…the period of very high bull moose activity just before the peak of the rutting (breeding) season. During the summer months, large bull moose are secretive loners, mostly nocturnal, and favoring the deepest woods and most inaccessible habitat. But starting in mid Sept, the huge-racked, dominant bulls are ranging far and wide, looking for receptive cows. All summer, we have scouted out the best moose locations in the Nahmakanta wilderness, and in very small groups(2-4) we hike and paddle into these special areas before sunrise and again in late afternoon to observe and photograph moose in their natural surroundings, with near-peak fall foliage and early morning fog as backdrop. $795/person (package includes 4 nights lodging, all meals, 3 days guiding)

"A True Maine Wilderness Lodge....Since 1872"

A Traditional and Authentic Maine Wilderness Camp in the heart of Maine's fabled "North Woods" and a wonderful spot for family wilderness vacations ! Our historic, 19th century dining lodge and restored lakefront

guest cabins are the only buildings on sparkling, spring-fed "Nahmakanta",

often called Maine's most spectacular lake !   Except for our Maine

wilderness cabins, the Nahmakanta shoreline is entirely wild, with

enormous granite boulders and beautiful natural sand beaches.

Surrounding us is a vast wilderness preserve of mountains, forests

and crystal clear lakes that is absolutely unique in the Eastern U.S.

Our entire area.... is like a living museum of natural history, where nature lovers will find an amazing variety of wildlife including a large moose population and over 100 species of birds (loons nest right near camp !) Come explore Nahmakanta's ten miles of wild shoreline by canoe or kayak. Hike our many trails (including the famous "Appalachian Trail") that lead to scenic overlooks, spectacular gorges, towering pine forests ! For fisherman, there is incredible backcountry fishing for salmon and wild brook trout up to five pounds..!

     Comfortable accomodations, superb home-cooked meals......

hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing,

moose and birdwatching, campfires,

....or just relaxing !

".....our family had an amazing time at Nahmakanta.  In this day and age, its

very difficult to get away from work, school, email, television. But our

family was able to leave all those things behind and enjoy the natural

beauty of this area.  Most important, we spent time together as a family

that we will never forget...."
